I found myself in need to move my hard drive to another computer without re-installing windows 7. I took me half a day to figure things out using extensive Google searching.

Before you start the process, backup any important information and your user folder (make sure you set in explorer to view hidden folders and files) from C:/users/your user

What do you have to do:

1. Press Start
2. Type CMD
3. You will see C:\Users\Your User. Type cd.. enter and then again cd.. enter to get to your drive letter.
4. Write cd c:\Windows\System32\Sysprep /generalize /shutdown
5. A window will pop out and select: Enter system bla bla (OOBE) (IF here you get an error that it cannot start because an app update, just go to control panel and uninstall solitaire and reboot)
6. Checkmark generalize
7. Select shutdown.

Now, after the process finishes and the PC shutdowns, get your HDD to the other computer and plug it in.

Start the PC and let it load:
1. You will see a screen where it says that windows will configure registry.

Every time I used this I had 1 problem. Setup says it cannot continue. If you get this press shift+f10.
Navigate to your windows install:

1. cd c:\windows
2. cd Panther

Now you will be in c:\windows\panther
So type this:

1. tracerpt setup.etl -o logfile.csv (this will generate a logfile to see whats wrong)
2. when the logfile generation is completed type: notepad logfile.csv
3. Use search for failed to process

Usually this points out a print registry entry that’s faulty so you’ll have to delete it.

At this point go back to the command prompt and type: regedit

A registry window should pop up. Use the path in the logfile to trace down the registry entry. If theres also a registry key provided use f3 to search for it and delete it.

You might still get the error after you clean up all the errors and restart. Just to make sure, redo the process and search again for errors (usually the second time you get the error, the keys are closed in { }. Search for them and delete)
After I no longer had any “failed to process” errors I was still getting that prompt. So the workaround for me was this: Restart and keep pressing f8 untill a boot screen will appear with multiple choices. Select Start in Safe Mode; you will get a prompt that setup cannot continue using Safe Mode. Just restart the PC and it should work now. If after Safe Mode you still get that error select “Disable driver signature enforcement”.

You will be prompted to the regular install screen. Here you will need to set up a new user, just make a test user and finish the process.

Your USER will still be there and you can log on to it.

You will notice that your taskbar icons and other small settings like messenger password Username disappear but you can restore those.

Thats about it.

Like I promised a few days ago, here is the tutorial on how to design a hosting package advert.

Step1:

Create a new document:

Step2:

Create a rectangle with the width of 953 px and a hight of 196 px.

Add a stroke using the settings below:

Now Create a gradient that ranges from #eff1f8 to #ffffff.

Step 3:

Create another shape (white colored) with the width of: 325 px and the height of 217px.
Add a gradient with the setting below:

Step 4:

Now create en ellipse (color: black) with the width of 57 and height of 198 px. Then go to filter – blur – Gaussian blur, hit ok and set to 18px. To dim the shape a little, set the opacity to 55%

Now our shape is rasterized and we can cut the part that we don’t want in order to create a cool shadow effect.

Using the rectangular marquee tool (M) cut the excess part like in the picture below:

Step5:

Now all we need to do is to add some effect to the shape. In order to achieve this draw a black line, from the top to the bottom of the shape, clone it and make the it (the clone) white.

Select both of the lines and press CTRL + E. By doing this we have joined the 2 shapes into a rasterized object.

Select the eraser tool with the size of 50px and the hardness set to 0%. Just erase the top and bottom. You should have something like this:

Now clone it and nudge it to the left side.

Since we’re done with the main shape lets start adding text and a buy button.

Step 6:

Create a round cornered shape with a 5 px radius, width of 136 and height of 36px and set the gradient detailed in the picture below:

Add the text “Buy Now” using #86ce00 and set this this shadow:

All you need to do now is add some text, depending on the site.

My dummy text looks like this:

Here is the psd for it.

As I promised, today I’m going to show you how to build folded – sharp and rounded – corners in Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Before starting, make sure you have Auto-Select On and set to Layer. (Top-left)

Let’s Begin:

Start Photoshop CS5 and make a new document, let’s say 960 x 900 Px.

Step 1:

Draw a rectangular shape by pressing the letter ” U ” and then just hold and drag your cursor to make the shape:

Step 2:

Now using the same process, make a new shape like the picture below (make sure to change the color):

Step 3:

Now press the letter ” P ” on your keyboard and like in the picture, above, make a triangle shape.

(To deselect a layer, just press ” V “)
In order to do this, just click once where the shape begins and then, by holding shift, click again where the black shape intersects the blue one and down below for like 1 cm. All you need now is to unite the 1st point with your last. . (Notice that when you close the shape a little circle appears over your cursor).

Step 4:

While still having the Pen (P) selected right click inside the newly made shape (the triangle) and select ” Make Selection”.

Step 5:

Make a new layer (bottom right, near the trash icon) and then select the bucket (G) and fill the selection with a Dark-Grey (2f2f2f ). Now deselect using CTRL+D Step 6 – Rounded Corner:

Hide the triangle and let’s start with the rounded corner:
Draw an ellipse by holding shift while holding and drag the circle.

Now just drag the circle layer just above the background.

Step: 7:

Select the black/rectangle layer and press ” A “. You will notice that some anchors appear on the corners.
We will use these anchors to modify the shape.
Now press P (without deselecting the shape) and make a new anchor point like in the above picture.
Also do the same to the top (parallel to the newly created anchor)

Step 8:

Press A and while holding down shift, drag the anchor (shown in the above picture) down to just below the middle of the circle. Do the same to the top.

Step 9:

You will notice that you have modified the shape but you don’t have yet perfect rounded corners. In order to achieve that (while having A selected) drag the little handle until you achieve your desired level of accurateness.

Conclusion:

Now you can start using this technique on your sites, have fun!
Also if you have any trouble, don’t hesitate to drop a comment.
