Was playing around with this tut and somewhere at step 16 I saw how this looks like an old 50’s neon sign.

im sorry if this is harsh, but…:
it doesnt really look like neon sign… at all.
However i think the typography has potential
as long as you dont rotate it like that. there is really no reason to do that.
also work on the gradient background…

In Romania there were signs that looked like that, but I’m not gonna argue with you:D I could’ve used more lighting on it.
The rotation was from the original tut and i left it like that. About the gradient, i tried to make it so the type is the center of the image.
